On September 22, Paraguay began slaughtering at least 1,000 cattle after banning all exports due to the detection of the highly contagious foot-and-mouth disease, with countries such as Argentina, Peru,  Uruguay, Brazil, Russia and Chile prohibiting imports from the country.
